What Is Sapodilla?

Sapodilla is a large, red-skinned fruit with a soft, latexlike pulp. The fruit has a sweet, but sour flavor, and can be eaten fresh or dried. Sapodilla is high in carbohydrates, with low fat and protein content. The fruit is also high in calcium and vitamin C, making it an excellent antioxidant.

It’s a fruit that comes from the sapodilla tree, also known as the Casimiroa tree. This fruit grows in the Amazon jungle and can be found in the wild or commercially grown throughout South America. When eaten in large amounts, sapodilla can cause stomach upset in humans and other domestic animals.

Sapodilla is also known as Chikoo.

Can Dogs Eat Sapodilla?

Yes, technically sapodilla can be consumed by dogs in small amounts and when it is prepared properly for dogs. The fruit itself is safe for dogs to eat. However, dogs can only eat the flesh part of sapodilla. The seeds and skin are undigestible and should be avoided at all costs. Sapodilla is extremely beneficial for dogs when eaten properly. It has many enriched vitamins which enrich your pup when eaten.

Can Dogs Eat Sapodilla Seeds?

Each sapodilla fruit contains up to 6 black seeds. Sapodilla seeds contain a substance called saponins that can be toxic to dogs if eaten in large amounts. Sapodilla seeds are not safe for dogs to eat, even in small amounts. Seeds are low in nutrition, and saponins can cause health problems in dogs.

However, that’s not the only reason. Sapodilla seeds are a choking hazard for dogs. They’re hard to chew and can be digested improperly by dogs which is extremely unsafe. If your dog tries to eat sapodilla seeds, immediately remove them from your dog’s food and seek veterinary care immediately.
